Cargill Meat Solutions Recalls 16,243 Lbs. of Ground Beef Due to Possible E. coli Contamination

Over 16,000 pounds of raw ground beef sold at Walmart stores nationwide have been recalled due to possible contamination with E. coli.

The recalled products include plastic-wrapped trays containing 93% LEAN 7% FAT ALL NATURAL LEAN GROUND BEEF with lot code 117 and establishment number EST. 1468.

The recall was announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on Wednesday. The FSIS is concerned that the products may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, a type of bacteria that can cause severe foodborne illness.

The products were produced on March 31, 2023, and have a use-by date of April 29, 2023. They were distributed to Walmart stores in 26 states: Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, New Mexico, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products should not eat them. They should return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.

The FSIS is working with Walmart to remove the recalled products from store shelves. The FSIS is also working to determine the source of the contamination.

E. coli O157:H7 is a type of bacteria that can cause severe foodborne illness, including abdominal cramps, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. In some cases, E. coli O157:H7 can cause serious complications, including kidney failure.
